Higher Education Digital Marketer Who Runs Your Campaigns, Not Just Your Strategy

Many institutions have a plan but no one with the time or skill to run it. As a higher education digital marketer, I work hands-on inside your accounts: I build and manage your Google and Meta campaigns, improve your programme pages, set up WhatsApp and email follow-up, and report every week on the enquiries, applications and enrollments your digital spend produces.

  • 200+ institutions
  • 12+ countries

When you need a digital marketer, not another strategy deck

Team analysing enrollment growth charts in a meeting

Universities and colleges rarely lack ideas. What they lack is someone who can log into the ad account on a Monday morning, see that cost per lead jumped over the weekend, and fix it before the budget is gone. A higher education digital marketer fills that gap.

You probably need hands-on support if:

  • Your marketing team is one or two people covering events, social media, brochures and admissions support.
  • Campaigns are set up once at the start of the admission season and then left alone.
  • An agency runs your ads, but nobody in-house can check whether its work is good.
  • Leads arrive in spreadsheets, inboxes and WhatsApp chats, and some are never contacted.
  • You cannot say how many students enrolled from Google, Meta or your website last year.

What I run for you as your higher education digital marketer

Paid search and paid social

I plan, build and optimise campaigns on Google Search, YouTube, Meta (Facebook and Instagram) and LinkedIn. Campaigns are organised by programme and audience, so you can see which courses attract students at what cost. I write ad copy, brief or produce creative, manage remarketing, and adjust bids and budgets every week. For a deeper look at paid media, see my performance marketing and PPC service.

SEO and programme page content

Paid ads stop the moment the budget stops. I improve your programme pages, fix basic technical issues and publish content that answers the questions students search for, so organic enquiries grow over time. Larger SEO projects are covered by my work as a higher education SEO consultant.

WhatsApp, email and CRM automation

A student who enquires at 10 pm should get a useful reply at 10 pm. I set up instant WhatsApp and email responses, nurture sequences by programme and stage, and CRM rules that assign every lead to a counsellor with a deadline. This is where many institutions gain the most, because leads they already paid for stop going cold.

Social media and video

I plan content calendars around the admission cycle, with student stories, campus life, outcomes and clear “how to apply” content. Each post has a purpose: build trust, answer an objection or move a follower to an enquiry.

Landing pages and tracking

Every campaign needs a landing page built for one programme and one action. I build or brief those pages, connect forms to your CRM, and set up Google Analytics 4 and Google Tag Manager so that every enquiry has a source.

Weekly reporting

Each week you get a short report: spend, enquiries, cost per enquiry, applications and, as data arrives, enrollments by channel. Each report ends with what I changed and what I will test next.

Want a second opinion on your ad accounts? I will review your Google or Meta account and send you the three biggest fixes.

A typical month working together

  • Week 1Performance review of the previous month, budget changes, new creative and ad copy live, landing page tests set up.
  • Week 2Lead quality check with your admissions team, CRM and WhatsApp follow-up review, SEO and content updates.
  • Week 3New audience and keyword tests, remarketing refresh, social content for the coming weeks scheduled.
  • Week 4Monthly report to leadership with enquiries, applications and enrollments by channel, and the plan for next month.

During peak admission months, check-ins move from weekly to daily.

The digital stack I work with

Marketing team reviewing a student recruitment plan on a laptop

I work inside the tools you already have, so nothing is locked to me if we stop working together. Typical tools include Google Ads, Meta Ads Manager, LinkedIn Campaign Manager, Google Analytics 4, Google Tag Manager, Google Search Console, the WhatsApp Business Platform, and education CRMs such as LeadSquared, HubSpot and Zoho. All accounts stay in your institution’s name, and you keep full access at all times.

Fractional, freelance or full-time hire: what fits your institution?

  • Full-time digital marketerRight when you have enough work and budget for a permanent role, and someone senior to manage them. It takes time to hire and train, and one person rarely covers every channel well.
  • Freelancer for one channelGood for a single task, such as running Meta ads. The risk is fragmentation: nobody sees the whole journey from ad to enrollment.
  • Fractional higher education digital marketerAn experienced specialist for a fixed number of days a month who runs the full digital stack, connects it to admissions and reports on enrollments. It suits institutions that need senior skill without a senior salary, and it can bridge the gap until you hire.

I also train your in-house team as we go, so that more of the work can move in-house over time.

How I measure success

I agree targets with you before we start. Early on, the targets are cost per qualified enquiry and speed of follow-up. As the cycle progresses, the targets become applications per programme and cost per enrolled student. You always know what I am working towards and whether we are on track.

If you need a broader plan before execution, start with my work as a higher education marketing consultant and we can move into hands-on delivery from there.

Frequently asked questions

How many days a month do you work with each institution?

It depends on the number of programmes, markets and channels. Most fractional engagements are scoped as a fixed number of days a month, with more time during peak admission months. We agree the scope in writing before we start.

Do you manage the ad budget?

You pay the advertising platforms directly, from your own accounts. I manage the campaigns and spend according to the agreed budget, and you can see every rupee in the platform at any time.

Can you work alongside our agency?

Yes. Some clients keep their agency for creative production while I manage campaigns and reporting, or I review the agency’s work and set its targets. We decide the split together.

Do you work with colleges outside India?

Yes. I run campaigns for institutions recruiting in South Asia, Africa and the Middle East, and for Indian institutions recruiting international students. See international student recruitment consulting for cross-border work.
